World Wetland Day Celebration

The Awadh Forest Department, in collaboration with the UP Voluntary Health Association, orchestrated a momentous celebration to commemorate World Wetland Day at Chak Gajaria Wetland, Lucknow. The event, held on the 2nd of February 2024, commenced at 9:00 am and successfully brought together a diverse audience, including nature enthusiasts, environmentalists, birders, students, and local communities.

The core objective of the celebration was to elevate awareness about the crucial role wetlands play in preserving biodiversity and the environment. Attendees actively participated in a captivating Bird Walk, providing them with an immersive experience to explore and appreciate the rich avian life thriving in the wetland.

Distinguished guests included Chief Guest Dr. Ravi Kumar Singh (IFS, DFO Awadh), Guest of Honor Dr. Asad R. Rahmani (Ex-director BNHS), and Guest of Honor Prof. (Dr.) Venkatesh Dutta (Head BBAU). Dr. Ravi Kumar Singh, in his address, emphasized the significance of wetlands as vital ecosystems, underscoring the need for collective efforts in their conservation. Dr. Asad R. Rahmani and Prof. (Dr.) Venkatesh Dutta shared his extensive knowledge about avian biodiversity, shedding light on the unique bird species that find refuge in the wetlands.

A significant highlight of the event was the unveiling of the 2024 calendars, themed “Birds of Lucknow,” which showcased the stunning beauty of the avian inhabitants of the region. Attendees had the opportunity to interact with the esteemed guests, gaining valuable insights into wetland conservation and environmental sustainability.

Additionally, a plant distribution initiative was undertaken to encourage participants to actively contribute to environmental conservation and adopt green practices. The event received overwhelming support, underscoring the collective commitment to protect and preserve wetlands for the benefit of current and future generations. The success of this celebration reflects the community’s dedication to environmental causes and emphasizes the importance of such initiatives in promoting sustainability, biodiversity conservation, and community engagement.
