When benchmarked against countries with similar levels of economic development, India lags on some critical health indicators. Moreover, there are huge disparities across States and Union Territories. According to Niti Ayog, with an overall Health Index Score of 28.61, Uttar Pradesh is the least performing State. This can be compared with the best performing State of Kerala with an overall score of 74.01, which is more than two-and-a-half times of the overall score of Uttar Pradesh.
