National Tobacco Control Programme
The National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) was launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Governmnet of India, in 2007-08. The objective was to bring about greater awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and about the tobacco control laws. Uttar Pradesh Voluntary Health Association is running “School Awareness Programme” in seven districts of UP: Agra, Aligarh, Chitrakoot, Hathras, Jhansi, Mahoba and Kasganj.
Objectives
- To aware school children’s on tobacco and to ensure the school follows the guidelines of COTPA Act, 2003
- To bring about greater awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and Tobacco Control Laws
- To facilitate effective implementation of the Tobacco Control Laws
Activities
- In all the schools, awareness activities conducted in Agra, Mathura, Hathras, Mahoba, Kasganj, Chitrakoot and Aligarh districts respectively
- Awareness generation through hoardings, wall paintings, posters, pamphlets, radio programmes, announcements, rallies, etc., in seven districts of Uttar Pradesh
- Yellow Line Campaign and Tobacco Free Zone organised in schools and colleges in the coverage districts
- Display of signage for Section 4 and Section 6B on appropriate places in education institutions
- Selected 30 government and 30 private schools (above 8th standard) and 10 degree colleges in all the seven districts
- Working with the coordination of District Tobacco Control Cell in the coverage districts
