The UP Voluntary Health Association, a prominent state-level network collaborating with ‘The Union’ to support the National Tobacco Control Programme in Uttar Pradesh, conducted a comprehensive oneday State Level Sensitization Workshop on the 22nd of November 2023. The workshop, held at Regenta Central Hazratganj, Lucknow, focused on the critical theme of Emerging Challenges and the Effective Implementation of Policies and Legislation on Tobacco Control, with a specific emphasis on COTPA 2003, PECA (2019), and WHO – FCTC Article 5.3 policy in Uttar Pradesh, India.
The primary objective of this workshop was to engage with and seek partnerships from key stakeholders in Uttar Pradesh such as senior government officials, national experts on Emerging Challenges and Effective Implementation of Policies and Legislation on Tobacco Control – COTPA 2003, PECA (2019) and WHO-FCTC Article 5.3 policy in identifying and monitoring increasing Tobacco Industry Interference at national and subnational level, and at the same time mitigating them as an act of violation of the state policy as in November 2019, State Tobacco Control Cell (STCC) and Health Department released the state level policy in line with FCTC Article 5.3 and rules were adopted.
